The Rhetorical Formation of Sounds in Haifa Al-Jabri’s Poem “Damascus"

The research investigates the effectiveness of the rhetorical phonological formation of in the poem “Damashq” (“Damascus”) by the Saudi poet Haifaa Jabri. The article aims at revealing the the rhetorical impact of phonemes and diacritics through two key aspects: the intentional selection of sounds and their distribution within a connotative system grounded in the core of meaning. It also explores the poet’s deliberate selection of specific sounds and the interplay between them. The poem’s vocabulary and structural composition reflect a distinct stylistic inclination shaped by the semantic resonances of the selected sounds Regarding their distribution, it reflects the poet’s intentional positioning of sounds to fulfill a particular expressive aim, aligning the words with the nuances of the poetic moment, as if the sounds compress meaning into pure aesthetic value. This interplay enhances semantic depth and auditory aesthetics within the poem.
