Abstract

This study examines metaphors in a context distinct from the traditional analysis of figurative language within the classical rhetorical tradition. This study focuses on the relationship between humans, language, and the cognitive process involved in transforming ideas into words. It aims to reveal how the human mind thinks and interacts with its surroundings through the use of language. Therefore, the study approaches the concept of the figurative cognitive metaphor in the poetry of a contemporary Saudi poet who demonstrated a remarkable skill in employing metaphor prominently in one of his poetry collections.  His volume I Do Not Know Strangers; I Know Their Griefs serves as an applied field for exploring how metaphor functions as a mechanism of human cognition, expressing visions and ideas in a creative linguistic form.
