Abstract

This research aims to study the portrayal of women in the poetry of the Saudi poet Dr. Fawaz Al-Laaboun, focusing on the interplay between symbol and reality. Symbolism is an important tool for text analysis, and the poet deliberately uses women both as symbolic figures and as real characters, expressing his opinions and perceptions through the poems in his collection. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach informed by modern semiotics, emphasizing interpretation, emotional and suggestive aspects, and potential semantic development through deconstructing language to align with the overall structure of the text.

The research is divided into two main sections, preceded by an introduction and a preamble, and followed by a conclusion and a bibliography. The preamble defines symbolism both linguistically and terminologically, including the poet’s perspective through his work. The first section is divided into two subsections: the first examines women as a negative symbolic representation, while the second examines women as a positive symbolic representation. The second main section explores the representation of women in reality and how this influences the formation of the poet's poetic text, analyzing his positions and opinions through a reading of the poems that illustrate symbolism in the poetry collection "Qadamis
